Hope against all odds
A downloadable game
Intro
During a year in the not so distant future, society has collapsed. You were just in time to realise the warning signs. Now, you and your friends became determined to flee towards wherever there might be a chance of survival.
Synopsis
Hope against all Odds is a Tabletop Roleplaying Game for one to three players. Players portray people who have to leave their homes because of societal collapse. They try to travel together to try to find a paradise.
Needed to play
All you need to play are 1 to 3 players, about an hour of your time, pen and paper, a notebook for journalling and around 10d6.
Inspirations and credits
This game draws upon a number of TTRPG's for their inspirations:
- Using your score as a dice pool of d6s, including the idea of a GM event, is based on James V. West's "The Questing Beast".
- The idea of using a score (Hope) which gets weaker slowly, but starts to weaken more rapidly the moment you failed a roll, is based on the Hope/Despair mechanism in "Polaris" by Ben Lehman.
Themetically, this game is based on the excellent educational simulation game Collapse, by Erasmus X, part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. Note that this is a game inspired by Collapse; there is no official affiliation to that game. It was also inspired by the French TV series L'Effrondrement (Collapse), about the same topic.
Last, the icon used to indicate the number of players and the hourglass icon are all retrieved from the awesome Game Icons and the cover image by Catalin Pop on Unsplash. Artpiece of Pompei is public domain.
